COPTIC MUSEUM

   This museum was founded in 1902 through the efforts of Marcus Simaika Pasha and established in its current position in Old Cairo in 1908. It was taken over by the Egyptian Antiquities Service in 1931 and enlarged in 1947. The collection contains more than 14,000 objects from the Coptic Period, including stone sculptures, frescoes, icons, textiles, ivory objects, wood, metal, ceramic, and such important manuscripts as the Nag Hammadi Codices.
