Palestinian religious leader. He was born in Jerusalem. He was a founder of the anti-Zionist Hevrat Hayyim and refused to recognize the State of Israel when it was established in 1948. When Hevrat Hayyim was reconstituted as the ultra-Orthodox sect Neturei Karta he became its leader. After his first wife's death, he married a proselyte, Ruth Ben-David.
