BICKERMAN, ELIAS J.

   American historian. He was born in Kishinev in the Ukraine. He taught at the University of Berlin from 1929 to 1932, when he emigrated to France. He later settled in the US, where he taught at the New School for Social Research, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, and Columbia University. His published writings cover ancient history, law, religion, epigraphy, chronology, and the political history of the Hellenistic world.
