Ἄρτεμις, ιδος, c der griechische Namen der Diana, welchen sie, nach einigen, von ἀρτεμὴς, gefund, hat, weil sie die Menschen gefund mache, wie sie hingegen Apollo durch die Pest verderbe. Phurnut. de N.D. c. 32, 34. Andere hingegen leiten ihn von ἀὴρ, Luft, und τέμνω, ich schneide, her, weil sie, als der Mond, die Luft mit ihrem Laufe durchschneide. Macrob. Sat. lib. VII. c. 16. Noch andere wollen, sie habe solchen Namen von ἀρτεμὲς, integer, weil sie so groß Verlangen getragen, jederzeit eine Jungfrau bleiben zu dürfen, Plato ap Gyrald. Syntagm. XII. p. 316. anderer Ableitungen, die von keiner mehrern Richtigkeit sind, zu geschweigen.
