Bugaku

[japanisch] das, -s, in der japanischen Gagaku Bezeichnung für die Tänze und die diese auf Blasinstrumenten und Trommeln begleitende Musik. Das noch heute gespielte Repertoire entstammt der Tōgaku (Musik aus China zur Tangzeit, 618-907) und der Komagaku (Musik aus Korea zur Zeit des Reiches Koguryŏ, 37 v. Chr. bis 668 n. Chr.).

Formal ceremonial music and dancing performed at shrines, popular among the nobility from the 8th century. There are 160 kinds of bugaku; 30 from Korea (the so-called 'right hand' dances) and 130 from China, Tibet, Central Asia, India and Siberia (the 'left hand' dances). See gagaku, kagura.
