BHARAT (BHARATA)

найдено в "Encyclopedia of hinduism"

Bharat (Bharata or Bhaarata in Sanskrit) is the Hindi name for India and the official name that the country adopted at independence. Legend traces the name to Bharata, the eponymous chief who headed the tribe from which all the people of India are said to descend and who gave his name to the MAHABHARATA. Bharata thus means “the homeland of those descended from Bharata.”
