Israelite rebel leader, head of a family of the tribe of Reuben. He and Abiram, also of the tribe of Reuben, joined Korah in his rebellion against Moses, whom they attacked for assuming the leadership; as descendants of Jacob's eldest son, they claimed the leadership for themselves.
