Disraeli, Benjamin: translation

(1804-81)
   English statesman and novelist. His father, Isaac d'lsraeli, quarrelled with the London Sephardi community and had his children baptized. Disraeli was already an estab-lished novelist when he was elected to parliament in 1837 as a Tory. In 1868 he became prime minister. Although he was defeated in the next general election, he became prime minister again in 1874. In 1876 he was created Earl of Beaconsfield. Jewish figures and themes appear in several of his novels.
