   Israeli talmudist. He was born in Brest-Litovsk. He became a lecturer at the Hochschule fur die Wissenschaft des Judentums in Berlin in 1923, and in 1925 he was appointed professor of talmudic philology at the Hebrew University. He published studies on the Mishnah and Talmud and edited the journal Tarbitz from 1930 to 1952.
