2) Alexander, britischer Meteorologe, * Kinnesswood (bei Kinross) 11.4. 1829, ✝ Edinburgh 13. 5. 1907; untersuchte besonders die langzeitigen Schwankungen des Luftdrucks und die atmosphärische Zirkulation; gab 1869 die erste Isobarenkarte über die Luftdruck- und Windverhältnisse auf der ganzen Erde heraus.

3) John, 1. Baron Tweedsmuir ['twiːdzmjʊər] (seit 1935), schottischer Schriftsteller und Diplomat, * Perth 26. 8. 1875, ✝ Montreal 11. 2. 1940; 1935 zum Generalgouverneur von Kanada ernannt, 1938 Kanzler der Universität Edinburgh. Seine reiche Buchproduktion umfasst Romane, Biographien und historische Darstellungen. Besonders erfolgreich waren seine Abenteuerromane, von denen einige verfilmt wurden.
