['dreɪtn], Michael, englischer Schriftsteller, * Hartshill (bei Birmingham) 1563, ✝ London 23. 12. 1631. Draytons Hauptwerk, »Poly-Olbion« (2 Teile, 1612-22), ist eine umfassende topographische Beschreibung Englands in epischer Form. Seine Lyrik (u. a. pastorale Gedichte, Sonette) steht in der idealistischen Tradition E.Spensers; schrieb u. a. auch historische Dichtungen, Satiren, fiktive Versepisteln und die berühmte Ballade »The battle of Agincourt«.
