   American Yiddish writer and activist. He was born in Warsaw. He became a militant atheist and agitator for socialism. He settled in London in 1887, where he published pamphlets on socialism, then in 1891 he emigrated to the US. He attempted to win support for socialism and atheism among Jewish workers and in 1900 became general secretary of the Workmen's Circle.
