AKAP79
(= A kinase anchoring protein)
Scaffold protein from mammalian cells to which Protein Kinase A (PKA), calcineurin and Protein Kinase C(PKC) all bind. PKC apparently binds at a different site so that PKC and calcineurin can, for example, simultaneously be bound. Through anchorage to AKAP79, kinases and phosphatases are co-localised at postsynaptic densities in neurons. AKAP79 resembles yeast STE5.
