   An American multibillionaire investor who, in May 2006, purchased 80 percent of the ISCAR metal-working company in Israel. The company makes precision metal-cutting tools for a wide range of industries, had previously always been privately held by the Wertheimer family (who retained 20 percent of the company), and had never publicly disclosed its finances. Buffett's company bought its controlling share of ISCAR, and the deal was announced on 5 May 2006. Buffet's investment, his first outside the United States, was an important asset to Israel's financial community and a vote of confidence in the fundamental strength of the Israeli economy.
