CHUNG, DOORI

(1973- )
Born in Korea, Doo-Ri Chung graduated from Parsons School of Design and designed for Geoffrey Beene for six years. She launched her own line in 2001. The fall 2005 runway show brought Vogue senior editor Anna Wintour first row and center—the sign that this was a show of significance. It should be noted that Chung began her business in the basement of her parents' dry-cleaning store in a New Jersey suburb outside of New York City. In 2006, Chung was the recipient of the Vgue/Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Fund Award. Her signature is exquisitely draped clothing and, similar to those of her mentor, Mr. Beene, the clothes maintain an architectural form.
