Community of Democratic Choice: translation

(CDC)
Intergovernmental organization. Established on 2 December 2005, the Community of Democratic Choice is comprised of nine post-totalitarian states, including Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Moldova, Georgia, Macedonia, and Slovenia. It aims to promote the rule of law, democracy, and human rights in the former Eastern Bloc, including the post-Soviet republics. The organization builds on foundations established by the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, including counterbalancing Russian predominance in Eastern European affairs. The organization is also seen as a tool of cooperation for states with a decidedly proEuropean orientation, particularly Ukraine and Georgia, which both wish to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU). The organization also has a youth forum intended to promote dialogue and cooperation among young people across Eastern Europe.
