EINHORN, DAVID

(1809-70)

   American Reform rabbi of German origin. He was born in Bavaria and succeeded Samuel Holdheim as chief rabbi of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1855 he became rabbi of the Har Sinai Congregation of Baltimore, and later served as rabbi of Kenesseth Israel in Philadelphia and Congregation Adath Israel in New York. He was the leader of the extreme Reform wing of American Jewry. His Olat Tamid served as the model of the Union Prayer Book of the Reform movement.
