(Werner Louis Georg Lüddeckens, 1888— 1945)
Actor. Arriving in Berlin in 1914 after initial work in Hannover, Alexander remained based in Berlin to the end of his career. Usually cast as a dandy or leading man in light comedies, he also played the dapper gentleman in movies, beginning in 1915. His career came to a halt in 1935 when he refused to divorce his second wife, a Jew. In 1938 he received a special license from the Propaganda Ministry to work, but only in private theaters — where he had always worked anyway. He continued working as a film actor in the Third Reich, though his directing career after 1935 was finished.
