AZADI

Azadi: translation

   This is a Kurdish word that means "freedom" or "liberty." It has been used as the name of various Kurdish groups and journals. For example, it was the name of the organization associated with the uprising by Sheikh Said in 1925. This Azadi consisted of mainly experienced military men and was headquartered in Erzurum in eastern Turkey.

   Azadi was also the name of the journal of the Kurdish Section of the Iraqi Communist Party for many years.
