 1) Geoffrey Francis, Lord Fisher of Lambeth [- əv 'læmbeθ], anglikanischer Theologe, * Higham-on-the-Hill (bei Nuneaton) 5. 5. 1887, ✝ Sherborne 15. 9. 1972; 1945-61 Erzbischof von Canterbury, einer der Präsidenten des Weltrates der Kirchen, förderte die Gespräche zwischen Anglikanern und Orthodoxen. Durch seinen Besuch bei Papst Johannes XXIII. (1960), der ersten Begegnung zwischen einem anglikanischen Erzbischof und einem römischen Papst, wollte er der christlichen Zusammenarbeit auf dem Gebiet der weltweiten Diakonie und der christlichen Sozialhilfe dienen.
 
 2) Irving, amerikanischer Volkswirtschaftler, * Saugerties (N. Y.) 27. 2. 1867, ✝ New York 29. 4. 1947;, 1898-1935 Professor an der Yale University; Vertreter der mathematischen Wirtschaftstheorie, beschäftigte sich besonders mit der Gleichgewichtsproblematik in der Preistheorie; verfasste Beiträge zur Zinstheorie, die grundlegend für die moderne Investitionstheorie sind, zur Geldtheorie (Quantitätstheorie) sowie zur Theorie der Indexzahlen.

 3) John, englischer Bischof, * Beverley (bei Kingston upon Hull) 1459 oder 1469, ✝ London 22. 6. 1535; wurde 1504 Kanzler der Universität Cambridge und Bischof von Rochester. Neben Thomas Morus war Fisher der bedeutendste Humanist seiner Zeit in England; er stand in Verbindung mit Reuchlin und war ein Freund von Erasmus von Rotterdam, einem der schärfsten Gegner Luthers. 1529/30 zog sich Fisher den Unwillen Heinrichs VIII. zu, da er sich gegen dessen Scheidung von Katharina von Aragón aussprach. Nach Verweigerung des Suprematseides wurde er 1534 gemeinsam mit Thomas Morus eingekerkert und 1535 hingerichtet. Wenige Wochen vor seiner Hinrichtung war er zum Kardinal erhoben worden (20. 5.). - Heiliger (Tag: 22. 6.).

Baron (seit 1909) Fisher of Kilverstone [- ɔf 'kɪlvəstən], britischer Admiral, * Ramboda (Ceylon) 25. 1. 1841, ✝ London 10. 7. 1920; war 1904-10 Erster Seelord, prägte die britische Flottenpolitik vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg und begann den Bau von neuen Großkampfschiffen (Dreadnoughts). Im Oktober 1914 wurde Fisher abermals Erster Seelord, trat jedoch im Mai 1915 wegen Missbilligung des Dardanellenunternehmens zurück.
