BARRIOS, DANIEL LEVI (MIGUEL) DE
(1635-1701)
Spanish poet and playwright. He was born in Montilla of a Portuguese marrano family. He served as captain in the Spanish Netherlands, living in Brussels and Amsterdam. He was a follower of Shabbetai Tzevi. In his writing he initially emphasized classical and pagan allusions, but later stressed his Jewishness. His poems contain extensive information about contemporary Jewish life.
