BERTINORO, OBADIAH OF

   Italian scholar. In 1485 he went to Palestine and settled in Jerusalem, where he founded a yeshivah. He was recognized as the chief halakhic authority in Palestine and Egypt. His writings include a commentary on the Mishnah, in which he incorporated the explanations of the Talmud as well as medieval commentators.
