Attraction: übersetzung

Attraction, Anziehung, findet man in jeder Erscheinung der Körperwelt, wo Körper mit einer gewissen Kraft an einander gehalten werden. So spricht man auch von einer Anziehung der Himmelskörper unter einander, vermöge deren sie stets in gehörigen Abständen von einander gehalten werden, weil sich z. B. die Erde in einer kreisförmigen Bahn um die Sonne bewegt, gleichsam als wäre sie mit einem unsichtbaren Faden an die Sonne befestigt, so daß sie nie die ihr angewiesene Bahn verlassen kann. (S. Gravitation.) Die Anziehung, welche unter den Körpertheilen eines und desselben Körpers statt findet, heißt Cohäsion (s. d. A.); die Anziehung, welche verschiedene Körper zu einander zeigen, die mit einander in Berührung gebracht werden, Adhäsion (s. d. A). Die Anziehung endlich, welche beim Eintritt chemischer Verbindungen die Körper zeigen, Verwandtschaft. Außerdem gibt es noch magnetische und elektrische Anziehung, siehe Magnetismusund Elektricität.
