Dizengoff, Meir: translation

(1861 -1937)
   Politician of Russian origin. He was born in Bessarabia. He became active in Russian revolutionary circles and later in the Hovevei Zion movement. In 1892 he was sent by Baron Edmond de Rothschild to establish a bottle factory in Palestine. He returned to Russia, but in 1905 went back to Palestine and settled in Jaffa. He was a founder of Tel Aviv and became its first mayor in 1921. He published his memoirs, With Tel Aviv in Exile, in 1931.
