   American composer, conductor and educator of German origin. Born in Mannheim, he moved to the US in 1939. He was music director at Temple Immanuel in Dallas (1953-66), then became professor of composition at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He has composed cantatas dealing with Jewish themes as well as synagogue services.
