A hybrid animal that combines a cattle and a buffalo and is said to be lower in fat and cholesterol and higher in protein and iron than cattle.

There is a scurrilous rumor going around Buffalo Gap that Bob is

really a "cattalo" or a "beefalo," a cross between a buffalo and a

Charolais. It will take a DNA test to be certain, but no one cares

that much.

Construction of the Trent Severn waterway brought other less enduring occupations.Her Majesty's Royal Navy no longer has much demand for the white pine masts which previously kept the town in business, and lumberman Mossom Boyd's 1893 attempts to cross cattle with bison are now all forgotten except for the mounted head of the "cattalo" hanging just inside the doors of the municipal building.
