The site was briefly examined by FlindersPetriein 1886 and excavated by Charles Currelly in 1904 and Veronica SetonWilliams for the Egypt Exploration Society from 1964–1968 but has since been examined more extensively by an Egyptian expedition and a German expedition since 1985.

Buto
