CINEMASCOPE: translation
20th Century Fox pioneered this widescreen process in the 1950s and used it effectively for Westerns. It was later replaced by Panavision. The trade name is frequently used today for any widescreen process—the process of squeezing a wide frame into a standard frame. By using the CinemaScope process, filmmakers were able to provide stunning color and glossy images for panoramic scenes as well as chases and gun battles. From Hell to Texas (1958) has sometimes been considered the standard for early widescreen Westerns.
