condyle: translation

n. [Gr. kondylos, knuckle]

1. A knoblike process that forms the fulcrum for joint movement.

2. (ARTHROPODA)

The surfaces between arthropod joints, that provide the fulcra on which the joints move.

3. (BRYOZOA: Gymnolaemata)

In some cheilostomates, one of a pair of bilateral skeletal protruberances on which the operculum of an autozooid or mandible of an avicularium is hinged; in asymmetrical avicularia can be single.

A heavily sclerotized projection of the mandible's dorsal surface that articulates with the cephalon in the clypeal fossa [Wilson, 1989].

Knob; rounded process at base of central projection of male first pleopod (gonopod); "condyl length" as presented in Tables 4,6,8,10 is measured distance between base of condyl and distal tip of central projection (Fig. 32) [Hobbs and Jass, 1988].
