(1913-92)
   Israeli statesman. He was the leader of Betar in Poland. In 1942 he emigrated to Palestine and became commander of the Irgun Tzevai Leumi. From 1944 to 1948 he led the Irgun's underground war against the British. In 1948 he founded the Herat party. He led the Likud party to victory in the general elections of 1977 and became prime minister. His writings include The Revolt and White Night.
