[di̯ɔːr], Christian, französischer Modeschöpfer, * Granville (Département Manche) 21. 1. 1905, ✝ Montecatini Terme 24. 10. 1957; begann 1928 als Kunsthändler, veröffentlichte im »Figaro« Modeskizzen; arbeitete seit 1938 als Modellist, seit 1947 in eigenem Atelier. Führende Kollektionen waren der »Newlook« (1947) und die »Enge Linie« (1948), die H- und A-Linie (1954/55). Der »Diorschlitz« im engen Rock gewährte mehr Bewegungsfreiheit. Insgesamt war Dior einem eleganten, betont femininen Stil verbunden. Nach DiorsTod 1957 wurde Y. Saint Laurent das Modedesign übertragen, 1960 Marc Bohan (* 1926), 1989 dem italienischen Designer Gianfranco Ferré (* 1944) und 1996 dem Briten J. Galliano.
