Low German: from the Late Latin personal name Liborius. This is of uncertain origin, perhaps an altered form of Liberius (see LIBOR (SEE Libor)), or possibly of Celtic origin. St Liborius was a 4th-century bishop of Le Mans, whose relics were taken to Paderborn in the 9th century.
