In Hymenoptera, an abdominal gland of the sting apparatus that supposedly secrets a liquid which when applied to cell walls, forms a thin, cellophane-like, transparent, or waxy lining which may function as a chemical cue for nesting, maintaining humidity control, a defense against microbial infection and/or food source.
