Faldage: translation

Rent paid for a sheep fold; also, a lord's right to have a tenant's sheep graze on his land and fertilise it. Frequently the tenants' sheep were pastured with the lord's flock. It was also customary for the shepherd to fold his lord's flock on his own small piece of land for 14 days over Christmas, also for fertilising. The Latin form was faldagium.
