   Born in San Francisco, she made her debut there at four years in Bootle's Baby. In 1898, she joined the Alcazar Theatre stock company. She moved to New York in 1901 and worked in stock for several seasons before moving into major roles with Henry Miller's company. Although primarily a comedienne, she made a strong impression in the dramatic role of the selfish mother in The Silver Cord (1926). Crews appeared in many motion pictures, most memorably as the flustered Aunt Pittypat in Gone with the Wind (1939).
