   Alexandre Clarys was born in Brussels on 23 July 1857. A noted painter of animals, Clarys painted pictures of horses and dogs that won him acclaim. His works include a painting of Montjoie, King Albert I's steed. Clarys's received commissions from an international clientele. He died in Ixelles on 11 February 1920.
