ELIYA, JOSEPH

(1901-31)

   Greek poet and scholar. He was born in Janina and taught French at the Alliance Israelite Universelle school there. He wrote poetic love songs dedicated to Rebekah and also produced Greek translations of Isaiah, Job, the Song of Songs, Ruth and Jonah, as well as the works of medieval and modern Jewish writers.
