   Ar chitect. After finishing his studies at the Academy for Architecture in Antwerp, Belgium, Cuypers was entrusted with the restoration of several Roman Catholic churches. His was a rather radical neo Gothic style, inspired by the French architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc (1814–1879). Cuypers became a famous and successful architect ac tive in Mainz, Germany, and Amsterdam (designing the Rijksmu seum building there) and built churches in several other places as well.
