(1881-1942)
   Polish labour leader. He was head of the organization of Jewish craftsmen in Poland after World War I. Under Nazi occupation, he was chairman of the council of the Warsaw Ghetto. In 1942, when confronted by the demand to supply the names of Jews for deportation, he committed suicide. His diary is an important historical source about the Warsaw Ghetto.
