(1871-1948)
An architect, Jean-Baptiste Dewin was born in Hamburg, Germany. After studies at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts, he began a career in which his work evolved from characteristics of art nouveau to a distinctive art deco style of architecture, which he employed in designing both private homes and public buildings, including the town hall of Forest (1925-1926). Dewin is known especially for his design of hospitals, notably the Institut médico-chirurgical (1905) and the Saint-Pierre hospital (1926-1935).
