(Susana Cabrera Iglesias)
(1924-1996)
Rotund, acerbic comic actress. Born in Colombia (some sources say Mexico City) - where her actor parents were on tour at the time - Cabrera made her stage debut at the age of 3 (some sources say 11!). After a career as a dancer and comedienne in the variety theatre, she first appeared in films in 1956 (No me platiques más - with her cousin, "Pompín" Iglesias) and became a familiar figure - sarcastic and feisty - in the fichera (bargirl) genre of the 1970s. One of her best-known roles was in Autopsia de un fantasma (1966), in which she appeared with Basil Rathbone, John Carradine, and Cameron Mitchell. Due to a stroke, which paralyzed her facial muscles, Cabrera had been off-screen for some time prior to her death of cardiac arrest, in June 1996.
