   During his 50-year career as a scene designer, Barratt designed more than 1,000 productions. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and began his artistic career as a magazine illustrator. From 1932 to 1934 and again in the 1940s, Barratt was art director for the St. Louis Municipal Opera. His Broadway design credits began in 1917 and continued with major Shubert productions, including Bombo (1921) and The Student Prince (1924). He also dabbled in costume and lighting design as well as directing and producing. Shortly before his death, he directed the revival of Brigadoon at the New York City Center.
