Ewe,
 
Volk in der Regenwaldzone Westafrikas, in Südostghana, Süd-Togo und Süd-Benin, etwa 2 Mio., in mehr als 100 Stämme unterteilt; die wichtigsten (von Westen nach Osten) sind Anlo, Anecho, Watyi und Gun. Sie betreiben Ackerbau, Fischerei und Handel; ausgeprägtes Kunsthandwerk (Weberei, Töpferei). Heute arbeiten viele Ewe in Wirtschaft und Verwaltung. Die Ewe leben in geschlossenen Dörfern aus Kegeldachhäusern.Ihre traditionelle Religion kennt einen Schöpfergott, weitere Götter sowie mächtige Ahnengeister; aber auch das Christentum ist unter den Ewe stark verbreitet.
 
Die Sprache der Ewe, das Ewe, ist eine Kwa-Sprache. Die wichtigsten Dialekte von Westen nach Osten sind das Anlo, die Inlanddialekte von Ho, Kpalimé u. a. Orten, das Gen (auch Mina oder Aného) in Togo sowie das Fon und Gun in Benin. Das Gen-Ewe gilt in Togo, das Fon-Ewe in Benin als Nationalsprache. Durch deutsche Missionare wurde die Sprache der Ewe schon im 19. Jahrhundert zur Schriftsprache entwickelt.
