AGRIN
agrin: translation
Secreted protein (200 kD) isolated from the synapse-rich electric organ of Torpedo californica that induces the formation of synaptic specializations on myotubes in culture. Present in muscle cells before innervation, and concentrated at the neuromuscular junction once AChR-clustering occurs. The release of agrin from motor axon terminals is thought to trigger the formation of the postsynaptic apparatus at developing and regenerating neuromuscular junctions. Has several EGF repeats and a protease inhibitor-like domain.
