DONIN, NICHOLAS

   French Franciscan monk. He was a pupil of Jehiel ben Joseph of Paris, who excommunicated him for his heretical ideas. He joined the Franciscan order and compiled a list of 35 accusations against the Talmud. He was the main instigator of the Disputation of Paris in 1240, as a consequence of which 24 cartloads of copies of the Talmud were burned in 1242.
