1) Johan Christian Clausen, norwegischer Maler, * Bergen 24. 2. 1788, ✝ Dresden 14. 10. 1857; besuchte die Akademie in Kopenhagen (1811-18), ging 1818 nach Dresden und wurde 1824 nach einer Italienreise (1820/21) ebenda Lehrer an der Akademie.Anfangs dem Stil des mit ihm befreundeten C. D. Friedrich zugeneigt, entfernte sich Dahl allmählich vom romantischen Landschaftsideal und wandte sich einer realistischen Naturauffassung zu, die bereits impressionistische Züge aufweist. Bedeutend auch als Lehrer u. a. von K. Blechen und T. Fearnley.

2) Roald, englischer Schriftsteller, * Llandaff (Glamorgan) 13. 9. 1916, ✝ Oxford 23. 11. 1990; begann mit realistischen Erzählungen über seine Erlebnisse als Pilot während des Zweiten Weltkrieges (»Over to you«, 1946; deutsch »... steigen aus. .. maschine brennt«), wurde jedoch v. a. bekannt als Meister des Makabren und des schwarzen Humors; auch Gedichte, Kinder- und Drehbücher.

3. Im deutsch-slawischen Kontaktgebiet kann auch eine Kurzform zu slawischen Rufnamen wie Dalimir, Dalibor (urslaw. *dalje »weiter« + urslaw. mirb »Friede« bzw. urslaw. *borti »kämpfen«) vorliegen. Die »Dahlie«, die im Spätsommer und Herbst blüht, wurde nach dem schwedischen Botaniker Andreas Dahl (18.Jh.) benannt.
