[buːn], Daniel, amerikanischer Pionier und Trapper, * Berks County (Pennsylvania) 2. 11. 1734, ✝ Saint Charles County (Missouri) 26. 9. 1820; trug als »Frontiersman« (Grenzer) seit 1767/69 wesentlich zur Erschließung von Kentucky bei; gründete 1775 die Siedlung Boonesboro. Seine Kämpfe gegen Indianer und seine Erfolge als Jäger und Siedler machten ihn schon zu Lebzeiten sehr populär; er lieferte das Vorbild für den Romanhelden »Lederstrumpf« von J. F. Cooper.
