eidetic images: translation

(Gk., eidos, form, appearance) Usually imagery is a weak source of knowledge. Visual images are vague, and cannot be scrutinized (or rotated or interrogated) like real pictures. However, some persons, mainly children, have the ability to form what seem to be more vivid, stable, and informative images, often producing powers of total recall after brief exposure to a scene. These are known as eidetic images.
