EMMELINE
Emmeline: translation
Emmeline f
English: of Germanic origin, introduced to Britain by the Normans. Even in the Middle Ages it was not clear whether this name was a derivative of EMMA (SEE Emma) or of AMALIA (SEE Amalia) (the spellings are very varied), and when it was revived in the 19th century there was further confusion with EMILY (SEE Emily). A famous bearer was the suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst (1858–1928), mother of Christabel and Sylvia.
